How often do students take lessons?

Students take lessons once a week from September through June. You can start at any time in the year however.

What is your cancellation policy?

While taking lessons with me you are not bound by any long-term commitments locking you into lessons for a year at a time.

With proper notification, you can cancel your lessons at any time. In order to cancel lessons you must give 30 days notice.

For individual lesson cancelations please see next question.

What is your make up/rescheduling lessons policy?

Make up lessons are only given for absences due to extreme illness with proper notice of 24 hours. Makeup lessons are not granted for student scheduling conflicts or forgetfullness. I set aside the student's lesson time every week and the same is expected of the student.

If I the teacher am sick or need to cancel a lesson for any reason a makeup lesson for the student will of course be arranged.

What are the rates for instruction?

1/2 hour lessons - weekly   $25
45 minute lessons - weekly $37.50
1 hour lessons - weekly $50

Payment is due at the start of the month for the lessons of that month by cheque or cash. IE: October has 4 thursdays on which the student has lessons. On the first thursday of the month $100 for 4 half hour lessons is due.

Please make cheques out to: Ryan Faas

Are there discounts for families?

There are not discounts for families I'm afraid, I charge on a per time slot basis.

Do you offer a free trial lesson?

I do not offer free tiral lessons however a new student is welcome to come for just one or two lessons and only pay for those instead of an entire month of lessons up front. After these lessons they can decide if they would like to continue or not on a monthly basis.

All potential students are welcome to stop by and meet myself and chat by phone or email to aid in their decision of taking lessons.

Can I pay at the lessons each week?

No. Payment is due at the start of the month for the lessons of that month by cheque or cash. IE: October has 4 thursdays on which a student has lessons. On the first thursday of the month $100 for 4 half hour lessons is due.

What are your payment options?

Payment can be made by Cash or Cheque. Please make cheques out to: Ryan Faas

Do I need to my own instrument to take lessons?

Yes. In any musical instruction you will need an instrument to practice on in order to make progress.

For Guitar lessons you should bring your instrument with you to lessons.

For Piano lessons we will use my piano for lessons. Please leave yours at home :)

What ages of student can enroll in lessons?

All ages of students from 5 to 105 are welcome to take lessons.

From past experience I recommend that piano students start somewhere between 5 and 7 years of age dependent on each child's ability to stay focused for half and hour at a time and apparent aptitude to the instrument.

For guitar students I recommend not starting any earlier than 8 years old. The guitar is more complicated to produce sound from when you start as a child and more finger dexterity is needed. Younger children tend to get frustrated easily and turned off of learning an instrument they might have loved.

Adult students are never too old to start!

Where is your studio located?

Lessons take place at my home studio in Walnut Grove, Langley, B.C.

Can I change the day, time, or length of my lesson?

Of course. Lessons can be changed in time, day and duration as long as the space is available.
